What we check

A Complete Speed Report, Not Just a Score

Every test loads the page in a real browser and checks more than 25 things that make websites slow.

  • Core Web Vitals & score

First and Largest Contentful Paint, Total Blocking Time, layout shift and a Lighthouse-style 0–100 score.

  • Server & hosting

Time to first byte, DNS, connection and SSL times, redirects, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3, compression, caching and CDN.

  • Every file the page loads

A full request waterfall with sizes, cache lifetimes and protocols, split by type and by first- and third-party.

  • CSS & JavaScript

Render-blocking files, unused code measured in the browser, main-thread work and long tasks.

  • Images & fonts

Oversized and legacy-format images, missing lazy loading and dimensions, the LCP image, and invisible text while fonts load.

  • Prioritised fixes

Each finding explains why it matters, how to fix it and roughly how much time or data it would save.

FAQ

Website Speed Test Questions

How does this website speed test work?

We open your page in a real Chrome browser on our server with an empty cache, the same way Google Lighthouse does. On mobile the connection is slowed to slow 4G and the processor to a quarter of its speed, so you see how the page behaves on an average phone. We record every file the page downloads, when content appears, how much the layout moves and how long JavaScript keeps the browser busy, and we also fetch the HTML directly to measure the server on its own.

Why is my score different from Google PageSpeed Insights?

PageSpeed Insights loads the page once quickly and then estimates the slow-phone timings with a model. We really slow the connection and processor down while the page loads, which is closer to what a phone user experiences but usually gives somewhat lower mobile scores. Scores also change from run to run because servers, ads and networks vary, so compare runs from the same tool and look at the individual metrics and findings rather than a single number.

What are Core Web Vitals?

Core Web Vitals are Google’s three user-experience metrics: Largest Contentful Paint (how quickly the main content shows, good is under 2.5 seconds), Interaction to Next Paint (how quickly the page reacts to taps and clicks, good is under 200 ms) and Cumulative Layout Shift (how much the layout jumps, good is under 0.1). A lab test cannot measure real interactions, so Total Blocking Time is shown as the stand-in for responsiveness.

What is a good page speed score?

90 to 100 is good, 50 to 89 needs improvement and below 50 is poor. The score combines First Contentful Paint, Largest Contentful Paint, Total Blocking Time and Cumulative Layout Shift using Lighthouse’s scoring curves. A score in the 70s on mobile is already better than most websites; the findings list shows which changes will move it most.

Which fixes should I do first?

Start at the top of the findings list: it is sorted by impact, and each item shows the estimated time or data it would save. Slow server response, render-blocking CSS and JavaScript, oversized or unoptimised images and heavy third-party scripts are the most common big wins. Many of them can be fixed with good caching, image optimisation and removing plugins or tags that are no longer needed.

Is the test free, and is my report private?

The test is free. Each report gets a private link that is only shared if you share it, and reports are deleted after 30 days. We only load the public page you enter, like any visitor would; nothing is stored about the site beyond the report itself. To keep the tester available for everyone there is a limit of a few tests per visitor every ten minutes.

Can you make my website faster?

Yes. WebCentauri’s website speed optimisation service fixes the issues this report finds — server and caching setup, image optimisation, CSS and JavaScript loading, fonts, third-party scripts and theme or page-builder bloat — and measures the result before and after.
