It reads your site the way search engines and AI crawlers do. We fetch robots.txt, your XML sitemap and llms.txt, test whether AI crawlers such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot are allowed in, then crawl up to 15 pages and check titles, meta descriptions, headings, canonical tags, noindex rules, broken links, images, structured data, Open Graph tags and more. The AEO part looks at whether your content can be quoted by answer engines: question-style headings with short direct answers, FAQ and other schema, content that is visible without JavaScript, and trust signals such as organisation details, authors and dates.

Answer Engine Optimisation is the work of making your pages easy for AI assistants and answer features to understand, trust and quote: ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Bing Copilot and voice assistants. It builds on SEO but puts extra weight on clear questions with concise answers, structured data, content that is in the HTML rather than loaded by JavaScript, and strong signals about who is behind the content.

Each check passes, gets a warning or fails, and carries a weight for its impact: high-impact checks such as noindex rules, missing titles or blocked crawlers count three times as much as low-impact polish. A warning counts as half a pass. The SEO and AEO scores are the weighted share of checks passed in their categories, from 0 to 100. Informational findings are shown but do not affect the score.

It depends on what you want. Search and assistant crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot and Claude-SearchBot fetch pages to answer questions and usually link back to you, so blocking them removes you from those answers. Training crawlers such as GPTBot, CCBot and Google-Extended collect text to train models; blocking them is a business choice and does not affect normal Google rankings. The audit shows which bots your robots.txt and firewall currently let in.

Google renders JavaScript, but most AI crawlers do not: they read the HTML your server sends. If your text, headings or links only appear after scripts run, answer engines may see an almost empty page. The audit compares the words in the raw HTML with the words after the page is rendered in Chrome and warns you when a large part of the content depends on JavaScript.
